MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S is a combination drug, containing Enalapril (ACE inhibitors), and Propranolol (beta-blocker). It collectively treats high blood pressure and prevents the chance of having heart failure or stroke in future. Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a chronic condition in which the force exerted by the blood against the artery walls becomes so high to cause heart or kidney diseases.
MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S is composed of Enalapril and Propranolol. Together they work by relaxing and widening our blood vessels (veins and arteries). It lowers the raised blood pressure and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood efficiently around the body. Hence, the chance of having any heart attack, stroke, heart-related chest pain (angina) or other cardiovascular diseases reduces significantly.
MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S can be taken orally with or without food or as directed by your physician. Swallow the whole tablet with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S is preferable to take at the same time every day for better results. Some people may experience Common side effects like headache, dizziness, non-productive tickling cough, bronchitis, sinusitis, dyspnoea, gastrointestinal inflammation, digestive disturbances, abdominal discomfort, dyspepsia, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash, muscle spasms, myalgia (muscular pain), increase in blood potassium levels, fainting due to sudden low blood pressure, chest pain, fatigue, photosensitivity, taste disturbance, blurred vision, dry eyes and tinnitus (ringing sound in the ear), has been reported in patients taking MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S. Most of the side effects of MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.
Try not to stop taking this medicine of your own. Even if your blood pressure is normal, you should not stop using MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S as blood pressure has no symptoms and stopping MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S may worsen your condition. Let your doctor know if you have any liver, kidney or heart problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding. You should monitor your blood pressure regularly to be sure that MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S is working efficiently. And also, a healthy diet, regular exercise is necessary to keep blood pressure under control.
You should stop taking MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S in case of angioedema (severe allergic reactions characterized by swelling under the skin, often around face, lips or throat). Patients with diabetes, skeletal muscle disease (like myopathy and rhabdomyolysis), thyrotoxicosis/thyroid storm (high level of thyroid hormones), jaundice or marked increase in liver enzymes, and aortic valve stenosis (narrowed heart valve) should take with caution and under medical supervision only. Patients with impaired liver and kidney function (especially elderly above 65 years) should consult a doctor before taking MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S. Regular monitoring of kidney function and electrolyte (sodium, potassium, calcium etc.) is recommended while taking treatment with MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S.

Drug Interactions
Drug-Drug Interaction: MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S interacts with organ transplant related drugs (temsirolimus, everolimus, sirolimus), blood pressure lowering pills (clonidine, diltiazem, verapamil, sacubitril/valsartan, aliskiren), lithium, antidiabetic (insulin, vildagliptin), pain killers (indomethacin, acetylsalicylic acid), and blood thinner (heparin).
Drug-Food Interaction: Alcohol and high potassium containing foods should be avoided when taking MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S as it can effect the efficacy of MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S when taken together.
Drug-Disease Interaction: MET XL R 50/5MG TABLET 15’S should be taken with caution if you are undergoing dialysis or any other type of blood filtration, have kidney problems where the blood supply to your kidney is reduced (renal artery stenosis), your blood pressure is abnormally low or unstable, have diabetes and you are treated with a blood pressure lowering medicine.
