Eptoin 300mg ER Tablet 30’s belongs to the group of neurological medication called ‘Anticonvulsant’ (hydantoins) used to control various epileptic conditions (fits), prevent seizures during/after brain surgery or after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Besides this, Eptoin 300mg ER Tablet 30’s also treat trigeminal neuralgia (facial nerve pain). Epilepsy is the central nervous system’s disorder characterized by a sudden rush of electrical activity in the brain leading to seizures, with unusual behaviour, and loss of awareness.
Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s contains ‘Phenytoin’ which works by controlling the overactivity of the brain that causes seizures episodes (fits). Our brain cells (neurons) works by firing at a certain rate to function normally. However, during an epileptic attack or seizure, our neurons are forced to work with rapid speed compared to normal condition. Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s helps prevent neurons from working at very fast speed thereby preventing all brain cells firing together rapidly in an uncontrolled way. As a result episodes of seizures is stopped at its initial point only. Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s is not effective for the treatment of absence (petit mal) seizures.
Take Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s with or without food. You are advised to take Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. You may experience certain common side-effects such as weakness, drowsiness, dizziness, restlessness, and constipation in some cases. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.
To treat your condition, effectually continue taking Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s for as long as your doctor has prescribed it. Please do not skip any doses or stop taking Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s suddenly without consulting your doctor as it may lead to increased seizures. Avoid taking Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s if you are pregnant or breast-feeding unless prescribed. Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s should not be given to children unless prescribed by a doctor. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s as it might increase side-effects. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking and your health condition to rule out any unpleasant side effects.

You should immediately stop taking Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s if you develop any skin rashes (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), swollen glands (anticonvulsant hypersensitivity syndrome – AHS) or have suicidal thoughts. Do not skip any doses or stop taking Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s suddenly without consulting your doctor as Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s may cause increased seizures. Do not take Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s if you are allergic to any of its contents. Talk to your doctor if you have heart, kidney, or liver problems. Avoid taking Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s if you are pregnant or breast-feeding unless prescribed by your doctor. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s as it might cause unpleasant side-effects. Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s should not be used by children unless prescribed. Let your doctor know if you have diabetes, as intake of Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s affects the blood sugar level. Intake of Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s may cause dizziness so be cautious while driving or operating any heavy machinery. Tell your doctor that you are taking anti-HIV medicine (like delavirdine) before intake of Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s, as both might react with each other leading to serious condition.
Drug Interactions
DRUG-DRUG INTERACTIONS: Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s may have interaction with aspirin, acetaminophen and ibuprofen (used to relieve pain), warfarin and clopidogrel (used to prevent blood clot), carbamazepine, gabapentin and pregabalin (used to treat seizures), diazepam (used to treat anxiety disorder), fluoxetine and quetiapine (used to treat depression), furosemide (used to treat oedema or fluid overload), atorvastatin (used to treat high cholesterol), sildenafil (used to treat erectile dysfunction), levothyroxine (used to treat thyroid deficiency), delavirdine (anti-HIV drugs), ergocalciferol, cholecalciferol, (calcium supplements), and folic acid (used to treat iron deficiencies or anaemia).
FOOD-DRUG INTERACTIONS: Do not take Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s with St. John’s wort (an antidepressant herbal supplement).
DRUG-DISEASE INTERACTION: Eptoin 300 ER Tablet 30’s may have interactions with heart problems, diabetes, anemia, alcoholism, blood disorders, kidney and liver problems.
