INTRODUCTION
SPENZO 1 MG contains Flupenthixol which belongs to a group of medicines known as antipsychotics (neuroleptics) which is used to treat schizophrenia. It is also used to treat depression in patients who may or may not, also be showing signs of anxiety. It act on nerve pathways in specific areas of the brain and helps to correct certain chemical imbalances that are causing the symptoms of illness.
Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. It results in some combination of hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behavior that impairs daily functioning, and can be disabling. Flupenthixol is a thioxanthene derivative with antipsychotic properties. It is an anxiolytic, antidepressive agent and a mood stabilizer. It inhibits the central monoamine receptors, particularly the dopamine D1 and D2 receptors. Its antipsychotic activity is related to blocking of postsynaptic dopamine receptors in the CNS.
Always take SPENZO 1 MG exactly as directed by your doctor. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have liver, kidney or heart problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is not recommended for children. The common side effects are dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, headache and muscle spasms.

HOW SPENZO 1MG WORKS
SPENZO 1MG works by blocking the action of dopamine, a chemical messenger in the brain that affects thoughts and mood. Dopamine is known as a neurotransmitter, it is involved in transmitting messages between brain cells. It is known to be involved in regulating mood and behaviour.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always take SPENZO 1 MG exactly as your doctor has told you. Swallow this medicine with a glass of water and do not crush or chew. It can be taken with or without food.
SIDE EFFECTS OF SPENZO 1 MG
SERIOUS
Skin rash, hives, swelling and breathing difficulty
Fever or soreness of the mouth, gums or throat
Blood clots in the veins especially in the legs (symptoms include swelling, pain and redness in the leg)
Unusual movements of the mouth and tongue
COMMON
Drowsiness
Dry mouth
Muscle spasm

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache:
Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Apply a cold, wet cloth or ice pack to your forehead. Rest in a quiet, comfortable, dark room.
Drowsiness:
Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.
Vomiting:
Drink clear or ice-cold drinks. Eat light, bland foods and avoid fried, greasy, or sweet foods.
Constipation:
Add fruits, vegetables whole grains and other high-fiber foods to your normal diet.
Diarrhoea:
Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. ORS should be used to prevent dehydration.
Dry mouth:
Chew sugar free candies to stimulate the flow of saliva and limit your caffeine intake. Drink small sips of water regularly.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
SPENZO 1MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
BREASTFEEDING
SPENZO 1MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or handle any machines while taking this medicine, since it may cause drowsiness or dizziness or blurred vision.
ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with SPENZO 1MG.
KIDNEY
SPENZO 1MG is not recommended in patients with any active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
SPENZO 1MG is not recommended in patients with active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Tell your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Flupenthixol.
HEART DISEASE
SPENZO 1MG is not recommended in patients with severe heart problems or severe blockage of some arteries, irregular heart rhythms or any other active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
OTHERS
Inform your doctor if you have or had,
Parkinson’s disease
Seizures
Dementia
Glaucoma
Blood clots
High blood pressure
Hypokalemia or hypomagnesia
Are more excited or overactive than normal
Are being treated for cancer
Breathing problems (asthma or bronchitis)
Thyroid problems
Diabetes
INTERACTIONS
Inform your doctor if you are using or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following,
Tricyclic antidepressant medicines
Guanethidine (used to lower the blood pressure)
Barbiturates
Levodopa (used to treat parkinson’s disease)
Metoclopramide (used to treat nausea and other stomach conditions)
Thioridazine (used to treat psychotic disorders)
Quinidine, amiodarone, sotalol, erythromycin, moxifloxacin, lithium (used to change the heartbeat)
Warfarin (used to prevent blood clots)
Piperazine (used to treat worm infections)
Sibutramine (used to reduce appetite)
Prednisolone
