INTRODUCTION
Nikoran IV 48 contains Nicorandil which belongs to a group of medicines known as potassium-channel activators which works by increasing the blood flow through the blood vessels of the heart. It is used to prevent and treat long-term chest pain (angina). Angina is a type of chest pain often described as squeezing, pressure, heaviness, tightness or pain in your chest due to reduced blood flow to the heart. Nikoran IV 48 used to treat angina and also reduces acute coronary events in high risk stable angina patients.
It is administered under the guidance of a doctor and should not be self-administered. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure, lung or kidney problems. It is not recommended for use in children and breastfeeding women. The common side effects are headache, ulcer, dizziness and palpitations.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dizziness:
Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.
Feeling sick (nausea) or indigestion:
Stick to simple normal meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.
Vomiting:
Eat light, bland foods and avoid fried, greasy, or sweet foods.

PREGNANCY
NIKORAN 48MG should be used with caution in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
BREASTFEEDING
NIKORAN 48MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
NIKORAN 48MG may cause dizziness. Do not drive or handle any machines while having this medicine.
ALCOHOL
Do not drink alcohol while receiving this medicine.
KIDNEY
NIKORAN 48MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
NIKORAN 48MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Tell your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Nicorandil or any ingredients of this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
NIKORAN 48MG is not recommended in patients with active heart diseases. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
OTHERS
Tell your doctor if you had or have a condition such as:
- Low blood pressure (hypotension)
- Pulmonary oedema
- Neurocirculatory asthenia
INTERACTIONS
Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following:
- Sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil (used for impotence)
- Hydralazine, minoxidil or nitroprusside(vasodilators)
- Medicines for high blood pressure, depression
- Prednisolone
