Uva Cef 100 MG Tablet
Uva Cef 100 MG Tablet DT is an antibiotic medicine that contains cefpodoxime. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, nose, throat, ears, skin, bladder, etc. It kills the bacteria, thereby stops the infection from spreading. Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Your doctor may advise this medicine alone or in combination with other medications to treat bacterial infections.
Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT has side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Consult your doctor if any side effects are seen for a longer period. Do not take this medicine if you are previously allergic to it. Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age.
Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT can be taken with food for better absorption. The dose of the tablet will be decided by your doctor based on the severity of your infection. For the ease of remembering, take it at the same time every day. Once the antibiotic is started, ensure that the entire course of treatment is completed. Avoid unnecessary use of Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT as excessive use may cause the bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics.
Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT effects may be delayed when taken with medications that reduce the production of stomach acids like antacids, proton pump inhibitors or H2 blockers. What is it prescribed for?
Bronchitis
Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of bronchial tubes that regulates air passage in the lungs. Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat bronchitis caused by bacteria. It is also used to treat a sudden worsening of chronic bronchitis (a long-lasting form of bronchitis) and subsequent episodes of bronchitis.
Cystitis
Cystitis is the swelling of the urinary bladder usually caused by a bacterial infection. This is more common in women. Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat cystitis caused by bacteria.
Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. It spreads during vaginal, oral or anal sex without using a condom or other barrier method. Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat gonorrhoea.
Community-Acquired Pneumonia

You may experience a stuffed nose and pain or pressure behind your eyes, nose, cheeks, or forehead. Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat bacterial sinusitis and provides relief in three to eight weeks.
Pharyngitis/Tonsilitis
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. If it is the infection affects both the throat and the tonsils, then it would be called pharyngotonsillitis. Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and/or pharyngotonsillitis.
Skin and soft tissue infections
Skin and soft tissue infections occur when the bacteria invade the skin and its supporting structures. Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat all skin infections including abscess caused by bacteria.
Pyelonephritis
Pyelonephritis is the swelling of the kidneys due to bacterial infection. This infection starts in your urethra or bladder and spreads through the ureters to the kidneys. Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat pyelonephritis.

When not to use?
Allergy
Avoid using Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if there is any history of allergy to cefpodoxime. If you experience any symptoms like a skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc., inform your doctor and seek immediate medical attention.

Pregnancy
Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT is considered safe to be used in pregnancy for treating bacterial infections. It is not known to cause birth defects in the foetus. Hence it is acceptable for use on your doctor’s recommendation.
Breast-feeding
Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT is safe to be used during breastfeeding. It enters into breast milk in fewer amounts. Hence, it should only be used if the benefits to the mother outweigh the risk to the baby. The infant should be observed for symptoms such as diarrhoea and yeast infection.
General warnings

Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Inform your doctor if you experience severe diarrhoea while using this medicine.
Seizures
Use Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT with caution if you have a seizure episode or fits because it can worsen your condition.
Antibiotic resistance
The entire course of treatment with Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT should be completed to avoid antibiotic resistance (microorganisms develop the ability to defeat the antibiotics), even if the condition gets better after taking few doses.
Driving or operating machinery
Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT may cause dizziness, confusion, or fits. Do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery after taking this medicine.
Antacids
If you are taking an antacid containing aluminium and magnesium salts for indigestion, they can delay the effects of Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT. Hence, it is recommended to take this medicine at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking antacids.
Use in children
Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age as the safety and efficacy are not established.
Dosage
Missed Dose
Do not skip a dose of Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT. If you forgot to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. And if the time for your next dose is nearer, do not double the dose to compensate for the missed one.
Overdose
Never take more than the prescribed dose of Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Uvacef 100 MG Tablet DT.
