INTRODUCTION
TEROL LA 4MG contain Tolterodine tartrate which belongs to a group of medicine called antimuscarinics. It is used for the treatment of the symptoms of overactive bladder syndrome. Overactive bladder syndrome is a disease with bladder function that causes the sudden need to urinate. It happens mostly due to ageing, an enlarged prostate and diabetes. The urge to urinate may be difficult to control and leads to the involuntary loss of urine (incontinence). It works by relaxing muscles of the urinary bladder and prevents frequent, urgent or uncontrolled urination.
TEROL LA 4MG is not recommended for use in children. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine. The most common side effects of this medicine are dry mouth, constipation, headache, dizziness, sleepiness, blurred vision, diarrhoea.

HOW TEROL LA 4MG WORKS
TEROL LA 4MG works by relaxing muscles of the urinary bladder and prevents frequent, urgent, or uncontrolled urination.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always take TEROL LA 4MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine can be taken before, after or during a meal and try to take at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS OF TEROL LA 4MG
SERIOUS
- Allergic reaction such as skin rash, itching, hives, swollen face, tongue or pharynx, difficulty in swallowing and breathing (angioedema)
- Signs of heart failure such as chest pain, difficulty breathing at night, tiredness, swelling of the legs
COMMON
- Dry mouth
- Headache, dizziness
- Bronchitis
- Dry eyes, blurred vision
- Spinning sensation
- Bad digestion (dyspepsia)
- Painful or difficult urination
- Vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation
- Sensation of pins and needles in the finger and toes
- Excessive amount of air or gas in the stomach or the intestine
- Extra fluids in the body causing swelling (e.g. in the ankles)
- Palpitations
- Increased weight
- Inability to empty the bladder
- Abdominal pain
- Dry skin
- Chest pain
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache:
Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.
Vomiting:
Try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluid such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicines without talking to a doctor.
Dizziness:
Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.
Constipation:
Take fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.
Sleepiness:
Get up and move around to feel awake. Take a nap to take the edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid weakness.
Abdominal pain:
Try to rest and relax. You can eat and drink slowly or have smaller and frequent meals. Applying heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
TEROL LA 4MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
BREASTFEEDING
TEROL LA 4MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine it may cause dizziness, tiredness.
ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with TEROL LA 4MG.
KIDNEY
TEROL LA 4MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
TEROL LA 4MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Do not take TEROL LA 4MG if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to tolterodine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
TEROL LA 4MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
OTHERS
Tell your doctor, if you:
- Are unable to pass urine from the bladders (urinary retention)
- Have uncontrolled narrow angle glaucoma (increase in intraocular pressure)
- Suffer from myasthenia gravis (excessive weakness of the muscle)
- Suffer from severe ulcerative colitis (ulceration and inflammation of the colon)
- Suffer from a toxic megacolon (acute dilatation of the colon)
- Have a gastro-intestinal disease that affect the passage and/or digestion of food
- Suffer from neuronal disorders that affect your blood pressure, bowel, or sexual function (any neuropathy of the autonomic nervous system)
- Have a hiatal hernia (herniation of an abdominal organ)
- Ever experience decreased bowel movement or suffer from severe constipation (decreased gastro-intestinal motility)
- Have abnormally low level of potassium (hypokalaemia), calcium (hypocalcaemia) or magnesium (hypomagnesaemia) in your blood
INTERACTIONS
Talk to your doctor if you are taking,
- Antibiotics such as erythromycin, clarithromycin
- Antifungal medicines such as ketoconazole, itraconazole (used to treat fungal infections)
- Medicines used for the treatment of HIV
- Medicines such as metoclopramide, domperidone, cisapride
- Medicines such as amiodarone, sotalol, quinidine, procainamide (used to treat irregular heartbeat)
