INTRODUCTION
NEKSIUM 20MG contain esomeprazole which belongs to a group of medicine called proton pump inhibitors. It is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach ulcers or intestinal ulcers caused by helicobacter pylori infection in both adults and adolescents and stomach ulcers and intestinal ulcers caused by NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and Prolonged treatment after prevention of rebleeding of ulcers with intravenous esomeprazole in adults.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a condition where stomach acid frequently flows back into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach (oesophagus) which can irritate the lining of your esophagus. In Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, tumor in your pancreas or the upper part of your small intestine (duodenum) called gastrinomas, secrete large amounts of the hormone gastrin, which cause your stomach to produce too much acid.
Always take NEKSIUM 20MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with food or on an empty stomach. It is strictly not recommended for use in children under the age of 12 years. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.
USES OF NEKSIUM 20MG
Treat Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in both adults and adolescents
Treat stomach ulcers or intestinal ulcers caused by helicobacter pylori infection and NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) in both adults and adolescents
Treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome in adults
Prolonged treatment after prevention of rebleeding of ulcers with intravenous esomeprazole in adults

NEKSIUM 20MG works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in relief of acid related indigestion and heartburn.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always take NEKSIUM 20MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with food or on an empty stomach. Try to take this medicine at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS OF NEKSIUM 20MG
SERIOUS
Severe allergic reaction (such as sudden wheezing, swelling of your lips, tongue and throat or body, rash, fainting or difficulties in swallowing)
Reddening of the skin with blister or peeling
Liver problems (such as yellow skin, dark urine, and tiredness)
Chronic inflammation of the stomach lining
Vitamin B-12 deficiency
Low magnesium level in your body (symptoms such as seizures, dizziness, abnormal or fast heartbeat, jitteriness, jerking movements or shaking (tremors), muscle weakness, spasms of the hands and feet, cramps or muscle ache, spasm of the voice box)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache:
Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluid such as water or juice, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any medicines without speaking to a doctor.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. eat and drink slowly and smaller and frequent meals. Applying a heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.
Constipation:
Take fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.
Nausea and vomiting:
Keep try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
NEKSIUM 20MG should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
BREASTFEEDING
NEKSIUM 20MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause dizziness and blurred vision.
ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with NEKSIUM 20MG.
KIDNEY
NEKSIUM 20MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
NEKSIUM 20MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Do not take NEKSIUM 20MG if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to esomeprazole or any other ingredients in this medicine.
INTERACTIONS
Talk to your doctor if you are taking,
Nelfinavir, atazanavir, saquinavir (used to treat HIV infection)
Clopidogrel (used to prevent blood clots)
Ketoconazole, itraconazole or voriconazole (used to treat fungal infection)
Erlotinib, methotrexate (used to treat cancer)
Citalopram, imipramine, clomipramine (used to treat depression)
Diazepam (used to treat anxiety, relax muscles)
Phenytoin (used to treat epilepsy)
Warfarin (used for thin blood)
Cilostazol (used to treat intermittent claudication)
Cisapride (used to treat indigestion and heartburn)
Digoxin (used to treat heart problems)
Tacrolimus, mycophenolate mofetil (used for organ transplantation)
Rifampicin (used to treat tuberculosis)
St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) (used to treat depression)
