INTRODUCTION
FEBUTAZ 40MG contains Febuxostat which belongs to Xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitor, used to lower blood uric acid levels in adults with gout. Gout is a type of arthritis in which uric acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body, builds up in the joints which can cause sudden, severe pain, redness, warmth and swelling in a joint. This medicine works by reducing uric acid levels. and stops crystals building up, and over time it reduces symptoms.
This medicine is also used to treat and prevent high blood levels of uric acid that may occur when you start to receive chemotherapy for blood cancers. It is not recommended in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any heart problems, stroke, thyroid problems, or kidney or liver problems. Most common side effects of FEBUTAZ 40MG are liver problems, diarrhoea, headache, rash, nausea, joint pain and oedema. Take this medicine according to the dose and frequency as advised by your doctor. It may be taken with or without food.

HOW FEBUTAZ 40MG WORKS
FEBUTAZ 40MG is a Xanthine oxidase inhibitor. It works by reducing uric acid levels which is the chemical that causes gout.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take this medicine according to the dose and frequency as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break the medicine. It may be taken with or without food.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache:
Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller.
Feeling sick (nausea) or indigestion:
Stick to simple normal meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.
Diarrhoea:
Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. ORS should be used to prevent dehydration.

PREGNANCY
FEBUTAZ 40MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
BREASTFEEDING
FEBUTAZ 40MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause dizziness, sleepiness, blurred vision and numbness or tingling sensation.
KIDNEY
FEBUTAZ 40 MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
FEBUTAZ 40MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Febuxostat or any ingredients of this medicine. Consult your doctor for advice.
HEART DISEASE
FEBUTAZ 40MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
OTHERS
Tell your doctor if you had or have a condition such as:
- Lesch-Nyhan syndrome
- Thyroid disorder
INTERACTIONS
Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following:
- Azathioprine
- Mercaptopurine
- Allopurinol
- Theophylline
