INTRODUCTION
DOXCEF 200MG contain cefpodoxime which belongs to a group of medicine called cephalosporin antibiotics. It is used to treat bacterial infections such as nose, sinuses (such as sinusitis), throat (such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis), chest and lungs (such as bronchitis, pneumonia), skin (such as an abscess, ulcer, infected wound, inflamed hair follicles, carbuncles, furuncles, infections around the fingernails, a type of skin infection called cellulitis), urinary system (such as cystitis, and kidney infections), sexually transmitted infection, gonorrhoea.
The common side effects are diarrhoea, nausea or vomiting, stomach pains, flatulence (passing wind), loss of appetite, headaches, dizziness, ringing in the ears, feeling tired or weak, itching skin without rash, pins and needles, numbness, or tingling feelings. DOXCEF 200MG can be taken with or without food. Try to take DOXCEF 200MG at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

HOW DOXCEF 200MG WORKS
DOXCEF 200MG kills the bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always take DOXCEF 200MG exactly as your doctor has told you. It can be taken with or without food. Try to take DOXCEF 200MG at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS OF DOXCEF 200MG
SERIOUS
- Allergic reaction such as rash, joint pain, swallowing or breathing problem, swelling of your lip, face, throat or tongue
- Blistering or bleeding of the skin around the lips, eyes, mouth, nose, and genitals, flu-like symptoms and fever (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
- Severe blistering rash where layers of the skin may peel off to leave large area of raw exposed skin over the body, feeling of being generally unwell, fever, chills, and aching muscle (Toxic epidermal necrolysis)
- Skin rash or skin lesion with a pink/red ring and a pale centre which may be itchy, scaly, or filled with fluid. The rash may appear especially on the palm or sole of your feet (erythema multiforme)
- Infections more easily than usual (blood disorder)
- Yellowing of the skin, eye or mouth and feeling tired. You may also be more pale than normal (serious type of anaemia)
COMMON
- Diarrhoea

RARE
- Blood disorders such as haemolytic anaemia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, lymphocytosis, anaemia, leukopenia, leucocytosis
- Jaundice, feeling tired, sudden fever, frequent infections such as sore throat, mouth ulcers
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluid such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicines without talking to a doctor.
Nausea or vomiting:
Try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. You can eat and drink slowly or have smaller and frequent meals. Applying heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.
Headache:
Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.
Dizziness:
Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
DOXCEF 200MG should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking.
BREASTFEEDING
DOXCEF 200MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine as it may cause dizziness.
ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with DOXCEF 200MG.
KIDNEY
DOXCEF 200MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
DOXCEF 200MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Do not take DOXCEF 200MG if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to cefpodoxime or any other ingredients in this medicine.
OTHERS
Tell your doctor if you have or had a condition such as,
- Have ever had colitis
INTERACTIONS
Talk to your doctor if you are taking,
- Antacids (used to treat indigestion)
- Ranitidine or cimetidine (used to treat ulcers)
- Water tablets or injections (diuretics) (used to increase the flow of your water (urine))
- Aminoglycoside antibiotics (used to treat infections)
- Probenecid (used with a medicine called cidofovir to stop kidney damage)
- Coumarin anti-coagulant such as warfarin (used to thin the blood)
- Oestrogens such as contraceptive pill
