Coxerin is a prescription medication that belongs to a group of medicines known as antibiotics. The medication contains Cycloserine as its active ingredient. Coxerin capsules are used to treat drug-resistant tuberculosis and can be given in combination with other medicines. It is also used to treat renal or kidney diseases. Tuberculosis is a serious infection caused by bacteria that primarily affects the lungs and can spread from one person to another via air droplets. Coxerin capsules are prescribed when the patient fails to show any improvement in symptoms even after being treated by other antibiotics. This medication and other anti-tuberculosis medications can result in vitamin B12 deficiency, megaloblastic anaemia, and sideroblastic anaemia (blood disorder). If a patient develops signs of anaemia (low red blood cells), dosage adjustment should be made, or a suitable alternative can be given.

The medication should not be used in patients who excessively consume alcohol and this medication. Doing so can result in an increased risk of developing seizures.

Directions for Use of Coxerin 250 MG

Coxerin capsules must be taken as and when directed by your doctor.

Take Coxerin capsules at the same time every day to ensure that a constant level of medication is maintained in the blood.

Swallow Coxerin capsules as a whole with a glass of water. Do not break, crush or chew the tablet; this can reduce its efficacy.

Coxerin capsules should be taken on an empty stomach and one or two hours before you have a meal. This is because food decreases the absorption of this medication.

Do not alter the dosage of Coxerin capsules without consulting with your doctor. Talk to your doctor if you feel that your prescribed dosage isn’t working for you.

Interactions with other medicines

Tramadol (pain medication similar to opioids that acts on the central nervous system) – leads to side effects like respiratory distress, seizure attack, irregular heart rhythm and coma.

Live Cholera vaccine (a live, weakened vaccine given to prevent and control the infection of cholera).

Interactions with food items

Food does not influence the effect of Coxerin capsules. So, a regular diet can be continued unless advised otherwise by the doctor.

Storage and disposal of Coxerin 250 MG
Store the Coxerin capsules at room temperature in a cool and dry area, away from sunlight. Keep it away from the reach of children and pets at home. Store Coxerin capsules in their original packaging. Do not take medicine if it is past the expiry date and dispose of it with biomedical waste.
Dosage of Coxerin 250 MG
Overdose
If you or anyone you know has overdosed on the medication, contact your nearest hospital or your general practitioner for further advice. An overdose of Coxerin capsules can cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, tremors, etc.
Missed a Dose
If you forget to take a dose of the Coxerin capsules, take the missed dose as soon as you can. If the gap is too long or almost time for the next dose, skip the dose you have missed and continue with the regular schedule. Do not take an extra dose of the Coxerin capsules to compensate.
