Ceftum 500mg Tablet
Ceftum 500mg Tablet is an antibiotic medicine that contains cefuroxime. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, nose, throat, ears, skin, bladder, etc. It is also used to treat a sexually transmitted disease caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. It kills the bacteria, thereby stops the infection from spreading. Ceftum 500 MG Tablet is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Your doctor may advise this medicine alone or in combination with other medications to treat bacterial infections.
Ceftum 500mg Tablet may cause side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Contact your doctor if these symptoms persist. Do not take this medicine if you are previously allergic to it. Ceftum 500 MG Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age.
Ceftum 500mg Tablet is recommended to take with food to avoid gastric irritation. Your doctor will decide the dose of this medicine based on the severity of your infection. For the ease of remembering, take this tablet around the same time every day. Once an antibiotic is started, it is always recommended to finish the entire course of treatment. Taking an antibiotic when it is not required can make it less effective in treating further infections.
Ceftum 500 MG Tablet desired effect may not be achieved when taken with medications like antacids or proton pump inhibitors. Therefore, take Ceftum 500 MG Tablet at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking such medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, before using Ceftum 500 MG Tablet.

What is it prescribed for?
Pharyngitis/Tonsilitis
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. If it is the infection affects both the throat and the tonsils, then it would be called pharyngotonsillitis. Ceftum 500 MG Tablet is used to treat pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and/or pharyngotonsillitis.
Sinusitis
Sinusitis is the swelling of membranes that line your nose and surrounding sinuses. It is often caused by bacteria and sometimes, viruses and fungi. You may experience a stuffed nose and pain or pressure behind your eyes, nose, cheeks, or forehead. Ceftum 500 MG Tablet is used to treat bacterial sinusitis and provides relief in three to eight weeks.
Bronchitis
Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of bronchial tubes that regulates air passage in the lungs. Ceftum 500 MG Tablet is used to treat bronchitis caused by bacteria. It is also used to treat a sudden worsening of chronic bronchitis (long-term inflammation of the bronchi) and subsequent episodes of bronchitis.
Skin and soft tissue infections
Skin and soft tissue infections occur when the bacteria invade the skin and its supporting structures. Ceftum 500 MG Tablet is used to treat all skin infections including abscess caused by bacteria.

Lyme disease is an infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi. This infection is spread to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks that carries the bacteria. This condition can be treated in a few weeks by using antibiotics. Ceftum 500 MG Tablet is used for the treatment of Lyme disease.
Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. It spreads during vaginal, oral or anal sex without using a condom or other barrier method. Ceftum 500 MG Tablet is used to treat the gonococcal infection.

Allergy
Avoid using Ceftum 500 MG Tablet if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if there is any history of allergy to cefuroxime. Breast-feeding

If it is used in your breastfeeding, the baby should be observed for symptoms such as diarrhoea and yeast infection.
General warnings
Diarrhoea
Ceftum 500 MG Tablet can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Inform your doctor if you experience severe diarrhoea while using this medicine.
Antibiotic resistance
The entire course of treatment with Ceftum 500 MG Tablet should be completed, to avoid antibiotic resistance (microorganisms develop the ability to defeat the antibiotics) even if your condition gets better after taking few doses.
Driving or operating machinery
Ceftum 500 MG Tablet may cause dizziness, confusion, or fits. Do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery after taking this medicine.
Antacids
If you are taking an antacid containing aluminium and magnesium salts for indigestion, they can delay the effects of Ceftum 500 MG Tablet. Hence, it is recommended to take this medicine at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking antacids.
Dosage
Missed Dose
Do not skip a dose of Ceftum 500 MG Tablet. If you forgot to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If the time for your next dose is near skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.
Overdose
