INTRODUCTION
BLUDROX 500MG contains Cefadroxil which belongs to a group of medicines called Cephalosporins. It is used to treat respiratory tract, skin and soft-tissue, urinary tract and other infections. Bacterial infection is a proliferation of a harmful strain of bacteria on or inside the body.
Cefadroxil inhibits the bacterial wall synthesis of actively dividing cells by binding to one or more penicillin-binding proteins. This medicine should only be used to treat bacterial infections and do not treat viral infections (e.g., the common cold).
Before taking BLUDROX 500MG inform your doctor if you have any gastrointestinal disease, liver, kidney or heart problems. Consult your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking this medicine. Your physician will give the right dose depends on your child’s age and body weight. The common side effects are nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea and vomiting.

HOW BLUDROX 500MG WORKS
BLUDROX 500MG works against bacteria and prevents from developing the bacterial protective covering which is needed for bacteria to survive.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always take BLUDROX 500MG as instructed by your doctor. Swallow as whole, do not crush or chew. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
SIDE EFFECTS OF BLUDROX 500MG
SERIOUS
- Severe diarrhoea (colitis)
- Skin reactions with blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals
- Skin is unusually pale or yellow
- Fever with sore throat/pharynx/mouth or urinary problems
- Swollen face, tongue, pharynx, difficulty to swallow
- Tightness of the chest
- Blood in the urine or cloudy urine
COMMON
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Indigestion
- Abdominal pain
- Severe itching
- Rash
- Allergic skin eruptions
- Hives
- A swollen sore tongue
RARE
- Unexplained bruising or bleeding (reduced platelets in the blood)
- Increase in certain white blood cells
- Fever with or without swollen glands in the neck or muscle pain
- Joint pain
- Changes in liver enzymes
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Diarrhoea:
Drink plenty of fluids and ORS can be used to prevent dehydration.
Nausea:
Drink clear or ice-cold drinks, eat bland foods and avoid fried or sweet foods.
Vomiting:
Drink clear or ice-cold drinks and eat light, bland foods, avoid sweets.
Abdominal pain:
Place a warm water bottle on your abdomen. Soak in a warm bath. Drink plenty of water.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
There is no evidence of teratogenicity, the safe use of BLUDROX 500MG during pregnancy has not been established. Consult your doctor.
BREASTFEEDING
BLUDROX 500MG may pass into the breastmilk and should be used with caution in lactating mothers. Consult your doctor.
KIDNEY
BLUDROX 500MG should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease, if needed dose will be adjusted accordingly. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
BLUDROX 500MG should be used with caution in patients with liver disease, if needed dose will be adjusted accordingly. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Tell your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Cefadroxil.
OTHERS
Inform your doctor before taking this medicine, if you have or had,
- Gastrointestinal disease like colitis
- Are going to have a Coombs test (used to detect antibodies that act against the surface of your red blood cells)
INTERACTIONS
Tell your doctor if you are taking,
- Tetracycline, erythromycin, sulfonamides, chloramphenicol, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (treats infection)
- Aminoglycoside antibiotics, polymyxin B, colistin
- Furosemide
- Anticoagulants (used to thin blood)
- Probenecid (treats gout)
- Oral contraceptives
- Cholestyramine
- Penicillin antibiotics
