INTRODUCTION
VOGLITAB 0.2MG contain Voglibose which belongs to a group of medicine called competitive α glucosisade inhibitors (α-GIs). It is indicated to improve postprandial hyperglycaemia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a condition in which your body does not make enough insulin, and or the insulin produces does not work. When this happens, your body makes too much of sugar (i.e. glucose) which gets build up in the blood resulting in serious health problems.
Your blood sugar will be monitored by your doctor periodically, with regular blood test, including your blood sugar level and your hemoglobin A1C. Stay on exercise and diet as prescribed by your doctor while taking this medicine.
Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease or pancreas problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.
USES OF VOGLITAB 0.2MG

HOW VOGLITAB 0.2MG WORKS
It works by inhibiting the intestinal enzymes responsible for breaking complex sugars into simple sugars such as glucose. This prevents blood glucose levels from rising very high immediately after meals.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always take VOGLITAB 0.2MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken start of a meal. Try to take VOGLITAB 0.2MG at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS OF VOGLITAB 0.2MG
COMMON
- Soft stools or diarrhoea
- Rise in liver enzymes
- Nausea, vomiting, dizziness
- Constipation
- Anorexia
- Heartburn
- Blurred vision
- Numbness
- Increased intestinal gas (symptoms including abdominal swelling, increased flatus and intestinal obstruction)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluid such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicine without talking to a doctor.
Nausea and vomiting:
Keep try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.
Dizziness:
Lying down and closing the eyes will help. Drink plenty of water and keep hydrated. Take plenty of sleep.
Constipation:
Take fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
VOGLITAB 0.2MG should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
BREASTFEEDING
VOGLITAB 0.2MG should be used with caution in breast-feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with VOGLITAB 0.2MG.
KIDNEY
VOGLITAB 0.2MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
VOGLITAB 0.2MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Do not take VOGLITAB 0.2MG if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Voglibose or any other ingredients in this medicine.
OTHERS
Tell your doctor if you have or had condition such as,
- Diabetic ketoacidosis
- Inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulcerations or partial intestinal obstructions and patients being predisposed to intestinal obstruction
- Chronic disorder associated with marked disorders of digestion or absorption, with conditions that may deteriorate as a result of increased gas formation in the intestine
INTERACTIONS
Talk to your doctor if you are taking,
- Antidiabetic medicines such as sulfonylamide and sulfonylarea, bigluconide derivatives, insulin preparations and agents (used for improving insulin resistance)
- Beta blockers, salicylates, MAO inhibitors and fibrates (Helps to enhance the hypoglycaemic action)
- Epinephrine, adrenocortical hormone, and thyroid hormones (Helps to reduce hypoglycaemic action)
- Warfarin
