TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET is a heart medicine that contains Metoprolol. It is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), angina pectoris (chest pain caused when your heart muscle does not get enough oxygen-rich blood), and arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat). TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET helps in preventing heart attack (a blockage of blood flow to the heart muscle) and stroke (damage to the brain from interruption of its blood supply). TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET works by reducing the rate and force of the contractions of your heart. Thus it decreases high blood pressure.
TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET may cause side effects like headache, breathing difficulty, low blood pressure, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist for a longer time. This medicine may also cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines after taking this medicine. Do not take TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET if you are allergic to it.
TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET should be taken with food or immediately after food. For the ease of remembering, take this medicine around the same time every day. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor.

What is it prescribed for?
Hypertension is a condition in which your blood pressure is very high. TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET reduces your blood pressure by widening the blood vessels and improves the heart rate.
Angina pectoris is chest pain or discomfort due to reduced blood flow to your heart. It occurs when the blood vessels are narrowed or blocked. TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET causes blood vessels to relax resulting in an improved blood flow to your heart and treats Angina.
Cardiac arrhythmia is a condition where your heartbeats are irregular. TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET slows down the activity of your heart allowing your heart to beat slower and less forcefully. Therefore it is used to treat heart rhythm problems.
When not to use?
Avoid taking TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Second or third-degree heart block
Heart block is a condition that occurs when the signals that control your heart are slowed down. Heart block is of three stages named as first, second, or third-degree. First-degree heart block is the least severe, second-degree heart block is severe and can often progress to third-degree heart block, the most severe form. TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET is not recommended to treat second or third-degree heart block that requires emergency attention.
Bradycardia or slow heart rate occurs when your heart beats less than 60 times per minute. TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET is not recommended to treat a slow heart rate.
Warnings for special population
TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET is safe to use during breastfeeding. It passes into breast milk in very low levels that are not expected to cause any side effects in breastfed infants. However, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Do not skip any dose of TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET. If you forget to take a dose of TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses together to make up for a forgotten dose.

TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET can cause shortness of breath and also worsen other respiratory symptoms.
TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET can mask the symptoms of low blood sugar if you have diabetes. Your doctor may suggest tests to monitor your blood sugar levels while on treatment with this medicine.
TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET should be used with extreme caution if you have a liver problem. This medicine breaks down in your liver and is excreted through urine. Using this medicine while you have pre-existing liver troubles can further worsen your condition.
Glaucoma or high eye pressure occurs when the nerve connecting the eye to the brain is damaged. Take TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET with caution if you have such a condition as it may increase the risk of mydriasis (a condition in which the pupil of the eye gets widened due to increased eye pressure).
Hyperlipidaemia is a condition in which there are high levels of fat or cholesterol in the blood. TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET can increase the cholesterol levels in your blood. Hence use TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET with caution.
Multivitamins with minerals may reduce the effectiveness of TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET when used together. Take TOLOL XR 25 MG TABLET 2 hours before taking multivitamins with minerals.
