INTRODUCTION
ONGLYZA 5MG contains Saxagliptin which belongs to a group of medicines called oral anti-diabetics. They help to control the level of sugar in your blood. Type 2 diabetes is a condition in which your body does not make enough insulin, and the insulin that your body produces does not work and also make too much sugar. When this happens, sugar (glucose) builds up in the blood. It is used for adult patients aged 18 years and older with type 2 diabetes, if the disease cannot be adequately controlled with one oral anti-diabetic medicine, diet and exercise. It is used alone or together with insulin or other anti-diabetic medicines. Exercise regularly and maintain diet as recommended by your doctor.
Take ONGLYZA 5MG according to the dose and frequency as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine whole, do not crush or chew. It can be taken with or without food. It is not recommended for children and adolescents below 18 years of age. Do not drive or handle any machines while taking this medicine as it may cause dizziness. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have liver, kidney, heart problems and pregnant or breastfeeding. The common side effects are headache, respiratory and urinary tract infection.

BREASTFEEDING
ONGLYZA 5MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or handle any machines while taking this medicine as it may cause dizziness.
KIDNEY
ONGLYZA 5MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
ONGLYZA 5MG is not recommended in patients with severe liver diseases. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Saxagliptin or any other ingredients of this medicine.
OTHERS
Inform your doctor if you have or had,
- Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
- Pancreatic disease
- Other medical conditions
INTERACTIONS
Inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following,
- Carbamazepine, phenobarbital or phenytoin (used to control fits or chronic pain)
- Dexamethasone (used to treat inflammation)
- Rifampicin (used to treat infections like tuberculosis)
- Ketoconazole (used to treat fungal infections)
- Diltiazem (used to lower blood pressure)
