The capsule is a synthetic tetracycline with antimicrobial properties. It binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit and thus prevents the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA-ribosome complex which in turn prevents protein synthesis in the bacterium. It also produces lactic acid in the intestine thereby preventing pathogens or bad bacteria from entering and growing. The lactic acid produced by Lactobacillus helps in restoring gastro-intestinal health.
