Microcef CV 200 Tablet (Clavulanic Acid)

Description

Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is a combination of cefpodoxime and clavulanic acid. It is used to treat bacterial infections affecting your lungs, nose, throat, ears, skin and urinary tract. This medicine is also used in treating sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhoea. It works by interfering with the formation of the bacterial cell wall and eventually kills them. Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is not effective against infections caused by viruses.

Microcef-CV 200 Tablet has some common side effects such as diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Contact your doctor if any side effects are seen for a longer period. This medicine may also cause dizziness or drowsiness, so avoid driving vehicles or operating machines after taking it. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to it. Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age.

Microcef-CV 200 Tablet can be taken with or without food. For the ease of remembering, take this tablet around the same time every day. Once an antibiotic is started, it is always recommended to finish the entire course of treatment. Do not take antibiotics without consulting your doctor because unnecessary use of an antibiotic can reduce its effectiveness for future infections.

Microcef-CV 200 Tablet may interact with live vaccines. Hence, maintain a time gap of at least 2 hours between the administration of the vaccine and this medicine. Inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney, seizure or gastrointestinal diseases before taking this medicine. If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or are breastfeeding, It is recommended to take this medicine only after consulting your doctor.

What is it prescribed for?
Bronchitis
Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of bronchial tubes that regulates air passage in the lungs. Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is used to treat bronchitis caused by bacteria. It is also used to treat a sudden worsening of chronic bronchitis (a long-lasting form of bronchitis) and subsequent bronchitis episodes that frequently occur after initial recovery.
Gonococcal Infection
Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. It spreads during vaginal, oral or anal sex without using a condom or other barrier method. Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is used to treat the gonococcal infection.
Sinusitis
Sinusitis is the swelling of membranes that line your nose and surrounding sinuses. It is often caused by bacteria and sometimes, viruses and fungi. You may experience a stuffed nose and pain or pressure behind your eyes, nose, cheeks, or forehead. Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is used to treat bacterial sinusitis and provides relief in three to eight weeks.
Community acquired pneumonia
Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) refers to pneumonia (lung infection) that is acquired outside the hospital. CAP can be bacterial or viral. Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is used to treat CAP caused by bacteria.
Pharyngitis/Tonsilitis
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. If the infection affects both the throat and the tonsils, it would be called pharyngotonsillitis. Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is used to treat pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and/or pharyngotonsillitis.
Urinary Tract Infection
An infection in any part of your urinary system (kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra) is called a urinary tract infection (UTI). UTIs are the most common infections in humans and women are at greater risk of getting this infection. UTIs are caused by bacteria and in some cases, viruses or fungi. Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is used to treat urinary tract infections caused by bacteria.
Skin and Skin Structure Infection
Skin and soft tissue infections occur when the bacteria invade the skin and its supporting structures. Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is used to treat all skin infections including abscess caused by bacteria.
Acute otitis media
Otitis media (AOM), is an infection of the middle ear (the area behind the eardrum), common in infants and young children. Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is used to treat acute otitis media caused by bacteria.

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid using Microcef-CV 200 Tablet if you are allergic to it. If you notice any symptoms such as a skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc., inform your doctor and seek immediate medical attention.

Pregnancy
Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is safe to use in pregnancy to treat bacterial infections. However, it is recommended to use this medicine only after consulting your doctor.
Breast-feeding
Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. It enters into breast milk at low levels. However, your doctor prescribes this medicine only if the benefits outweigh the risks. If it is used in your breastfeeding, the baby should be observed for symptoms such as diarrhoea and yeast infection.
General warnings
Diarrhoea
Microcef-CV 200 Tablet can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Inform your doctor if you experience severe diarrhoea while using this medicine.
Antibiotic resistance
The entire course of treatment with Microcef-CV 200 Tablet should be completed to avoid antibiotic resistance (microorganisms develop the ability to defeat the antibiotics), even if the condition gets better after taking few doses.
Use in children
Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age as the safety and efficacy data is not available.
Kidney diseases
Regular monitoring of the kidney function is necessary while taking Microcef-CV 200 Tablet and even after the completion of treatment with this medicine.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Do not skip a dose of Microcef-CV 200 Tablet. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is delayed for more than 12 hours, skip the missed dose and take your next dose. Do not double your dose to make up for a missed one.
Overdose
Never take more than the prescribed dose of Microcef-CV 200 Tablet. If you suspect that you might have taken an overdose, seek emergency medical treatment or contact your doctor immediately.

Kidney diseases
Microcef-CV 200 Tablet is filtered by the kidney and excreted through urine. An impaired kidney can lead to its accumulation and cause undesirable effects. Hence, maintain caution while taking Microcef-CV 200 Tablet as it can increase the risk of kidney damage.
Liver Disease
Microcef-CV 200 Tablet may increase liver enzyme levels. Hence, maintain caution while taking Microcef-CV 200 Tablet as it can increase the risk of liver damage.

Coombs test
