Description

Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR is a heart medicine that contains Metoprolol. It is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), angina pectoris (chest pain caused when your heart muscle does not get enough oxygen-rich blood), and arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat). Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR helps in preventing heart attack (a blockage of blood flow to the heart muscle) and stroke (damage to the brain from interruption of its blood supply). Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR works by reducing the rate and force of the contractions of your heart. Thus it decreases high blood pressure.

Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR may cause side effects like headache, breathing difficulty, low blood pressure, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist for a longer time. This medicine may also cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines after taking this medicine. Do not take Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR if you are allergic to it.

Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR can be taken with food or immediately after food. For the ease of remembering, take this medicine around the same time every day. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor.

Angina pectoris is chest pain or discomfort due to reduced blood flow to your heart. It occurs when the blood vessels are narrowed or blocked. Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR causes blood vessels to relax resulting in an improved blood flow to your heart and treating Angina.
Cardiac arrhythmias
Cardiac arrhythmia is a condition where your heartbeats are irregular. Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR slows down the activity of your heart allowing your heart to beat slower and less forcefully. Therefore it is used to treat heart rhythm problems.
Migraine prevention

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid taking Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Bradycardia
Bradycardia or slow heart rate occurs when your heart beats less than 60 times per minute. Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR is not recommended to treat a slow heart rate.
Second or third-degree heart block
Heart block is a condition that occurs when the signals that control your heart are slowed down. Heart block is of three stages named as first, second, or third-degree. First-degree heart block is the least severe, second-degree heart block is severe and can often progress to third-degree heart block, the most severe form. Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR is not recommended to treat second or third-degree heart block that requires emergency attention.

Dosage

Liver disease
Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR should be used with extreme caution if you have a liver problem. This medicine breaks down in your liver and is excreted through urine. Using this medicine while you have pre-existing liver troubles can further worsen your condition.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma or high eye pressure occurs when the nerve connecting the eye to the brain is damaged. Take Metolar 25 MG Capsule XR with caution if you have such a condition as it may increase the risk of mydriasis (a condition in which the pupil of the eye gets widened due to increased eye pressure).
Hyperlipidaemia
