Description
Lumerax-40 Tablet is a combination medicine used to treat non-severe malaria when certain other antimalarial medications become ineffective. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a severe or complicated malaria. Also, it should not be used for malaria prevention.

What is it prescribed for?
Acute uncomplicated malaria
This medicine is used to treat acute uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum strain of the parasite. It may also be used for the treatment of malaria that is resistant to other medicines such as chloroquine or sulphadoxine-pyrimethamine combinations.

When not to use?
Allergy
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to artemether, lumefantrine, any other artemisinin derivatives, or any other ingredients present in the formulation.

Drug resistance
It is strongly recommended to take this medicine for the entire prescribed duration even when symptoms resolve or improve. Failure to do so might result in parasitic resistance to the drug and treatment of further infection with this medicine would become difficult.
Severe complicated malarial infection
This medicine is not recommended for use if the patient is suffering from a severe and complicated malarial infection.
Hormonal contraceptives
This medicine may alter the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives. Hence, alternative or additional means of contraception may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.
QT prolongation
This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients suffering from QT prolongation due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient’s condition. Close monitoring of heart function and vital signs, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.
