Hetrazan 100 Tablet
Hetrazan 100 Mg tablet is an antiparasitic medicine belonging to anti-helminthic group of drugs. It is used to treat and prevent infections caused by parasites. The tablet is prescribed in treating lymphatic filariasis (disease characterised by severe swelling of arms, legs or genitals), loiasis (worm infection of eyes), toxocariasis (a worm infection which may cause neurologic, rheumatic, asthmatic symptoms and rarely blindness) and topical pulmonary eosinophilia (characterised by persistent cough that aggravates at night, weakness, enlarged spleen and low-grade fever). This medicine is not recommended to treat infections caused by tapeworms and pinworms. However, uses of the tablet mentioned here are not comprehensive. There may be other conditions for which the tablet may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.
The active ingredient of Hetrazan 100Mg tablet is Diethylcarbamazine 100Mg
Mechanism of Action of Drugs
Diethylcarbamazine binds act by interfering with nerve and muscle function of helminths and insects. The drug binds to channels of glutamate-gated chloride that are common to invertebrate nerve and muscle cells. The binding of Diethylcarbamazine pushes these channels open, increasing the flow of chloride ions and hyper polarising the cell membranes. The affected tissue is paralysed by this hyper-polarisation, ultimately killing the invertebrate. It acts on both the movement of the worms and surface layer of the worms, making them easier to kill.
