Amtas-M 25 Tablet
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet is a combination of Amlodipine and Metoprolol. It is used to treat high blood pressure. This medicine works by relaxing your blood vessels and lowering your blood pressure.
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet may cause common side effects such as headache, dizziness, nausea, muscle cramps, diarrhoea/constipation, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist or if they become severe.
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet should be taken exactly as advised by your doctor. Take it at the same time every day to maintain a constant level of this medicine in your body.
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet should be avoided if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have diabetes (high blood sugar levels), liver, kidney problems, or a history of glaucoma (a condition where the pressure in the eyeballs is abnormally high that can lead to eventual loss of vision), before taking this medicine.

What is it prescribed for?
Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a condition in which your blood pressure is consistently higher than normal. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, but if left untreated it may increase your risk of heart problems and stroke (decreased blood flow to your brain). Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet is used in the treatment of hypertension.
Ischemic heart disease
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet is used in the treatment of Ischemic heart disease, a serious condition characterized by symptoms such as chest pain, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, irregular heart rate which if untreated may lead to severe heart complications.
When not to use?
Avoid taking Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of your face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Severe heart disease
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet is not recommended if you have a history of severe heart problems such as aortic stenosis (narrowing of your heart valve), uncontrolled heart failure, and cardiogenic shock (conditions where your heart is unable to supply enough blood to your body), blocked blood vessels, prinzmetal’s angina (chest pain during periods of rest) as it may worsen your condition.
Peripheral Arterial Disease
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet is not recommended for you if you have blood circulation disorders like peripheral arterial disease (a condition where the blood vessels are narrow, leading to decreased blood flow to your limbs) as it may worsen your condition.
Warnings for special population
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet may cause severe side effects in your foetus and hence is not recommended during pregnancy unless necessary. If you are pregnant consult your doctor.
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet passes into breastmilk and may cause side effects in your infant. If you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor.
Abrupt withdrawal of Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet may affect your blood pressure control and may worsen your symptoms. Do not discontinue the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor.
Anaesthetic medicines given during surgery may increase your risk of hypotension (low blood pressure). This risk is increased in the presence of Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet. Hence treatment with this medicine should be informed to your doctor before scheduling a surgery. Your doctor may consider withdrawal of Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet 48 hours before administering anaesthesia.
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet may interact with other medicines and may cause undesired side effects. Inform your doctor about all your current medicines including any herbs or supplements before taking this medicine.
Driving and operating machines
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet may cause dizziness, visual disturbances. Do not drive vehicles or operate machines if you experience any symptoms that may affect your mental alertness.
Use in children
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age because the safety and efficacy data is not available.
Athletes are advised to avoid participating in high-risk sports such as archery, racing, shooting, etc. during treatment with Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet. Sportspersons should refer to the list of medicines published by the World Anti-Doping Agency to get information about the prohibited substances.
Try not to skip a dose of Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.
Do not take more doses than what is prescribed by your doctor. Contact your doctor in case of an overdose with Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet.

Interaction with Alcohol
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended when on treatment with Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet as it may lower your blood pressure. You may also experience headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate.
Interaction with Medicine
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet is not recommended if you have pre-existing lung problems such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a condition with swollen air sacs, resulting in breathing difficulties) as it may worsen your breathing problems. If required, your doctor may prescribe the lowest dose possible to avoid worsening your condition.
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have diabetes as this medicine may cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar levels). It is recommended to periodically monitor your blood sugar levels.
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have pre-existing liver problems due to the increased risk of serious side effects. Your liver function will be closely monitored and your dose may be adjusted accordingly.
Glaucoma is a condition where the pressure in the eyeballs is abnormally high that can damage the optic nerve and lead to eventual loss of vision. If you have glaucoma, Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet may affect your intraocular pressure and should be used with caution.
Pheochromocytoma is a condition with a non-cancerous tumour in your adrenal glands (glands located above your kidneys), which results in high blood pressure. Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet when given alone in this condition may further increase your blood pressure. Inform your doctor before starting treatment with this medicine. Your doctor may prescribe additional anti-hypertensive medicines to help control your high blood pressure.
Psoriasis is a chronic (long-term) skin condition that causes a skin rash with red, itchy, scaly patches. Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have this condition as it may worsen your skin rash.
Myasthenia gravis is a neuromuscular condition that causes weakness in your skeletal muscles (the muscles your body uses for movement). Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have this condition as it may worsen your symptoms and cause severe muscle weakness.
Hyperlipidaemia is a condition with high blood levels of lipids (fats/cholesterol).
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet may alter your blood cholesterol levels. If you have pre-existing hyperlipidaemia, your blood cholesterol levels will be closely monitored and your dose may be adjusted accordingly.
Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use if you suffer from cardiogenic shock (a life-threatening condition where your heart suddenly stops pumping enough oxygen-rich blood to your body) as it may worsen your condition.
Use Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet with caution if you have hyperthyroidism (high thyroid levels) as it may mask some of your symptoms. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately. Your doctor may monitor your thyroid levels during the treatment with this medicine. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on your clinical condition.
Do not take Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet with grapefruit juice due to the increased risk of severe side effects such as dizziness, headache, swelling of hands and feet, etc.
Multivitamins and mineral supplements may reduce the effectiveness of Amtas-M (5/25 mg) Tablet when taken together. It is recommended to take these two medications with a gap of at least two hours.
