INTRODUCTION
ACUVERT 5MG contains prochlorperazine which belongs to a group of medicines called phenothiazine tranquillisers. It works by blocking the effects of a chemical in the brain. It is used in the vertigo, Meniere’s syndrome and other labyrinthine disorders, nausea and vomiting.
Always take this medicine as directed by physician. Your doctor will decide the dose and duration of therapy depending upon your age, weight and condition. Do not take ACUVERT 5MG if you have jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), epilepsy, muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis) and increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma). Inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney and heart problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding women consult their doctor before taking this medicine. Tell your doctor if you are taking or taken or might take any other medicines. The most common side effects include orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure on standing) headache, nausea, constipation.

SIDE EFFECTS OF ACUVERT 5MG
SERIOUS
- Allergic reaction such as rash, swallowing or breathing problems, swelling of your lips, face, throat or tongue
- Pale complexion, sweating, high temperature, fast heartbeat, stiff muscles, fast breathing and feel confused, drowsy or agitated
COMMON
- Drowsiness
- Orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure on standing)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Skin rash:
Avoid bath in hot water because hot water can irritate the skin. Moisturizers can be used regular basis to soothe and hydrate the affected area.

ACUVERT 5MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
BREASTFEEDING
ACUVERT 5 MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machinery while taking this medicine, it may make you feel sleepy.
ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with ACUVERT 5MG.
KIDNEY
ACUVERT 5 MG should be taken with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
ACUVERT 5MG should be taken with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic to this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
ACUVERT 5 MG should be taken with caution in patients with severe heart disease. Consult your doctor for advice.
OTHERS
Do not take ACUVERT 5MG if you have:
- Or ever had glaucoma
- Parkinson’s disease
- Dementia
- An enlarged prostate gland
INTERACTIONS
Talk to your doctor if you are taking:
- Other medicines used to calm emotional and mental conditions
- Medicines used for depression, including amitriptyline
- Medicines used for Parkinson’s disease such as levodopa
- Medicines for fits (epilepsy) such as carbamazepine
- Medicines used to control your heartbeat such as amiodarone, disopyramide, propranolol or quinidine
- Medicines for high blood pressure such as doxazosin, terazosin, guanethidine or clonidine
- Medicines used for diabetes
