Description
Acitrom 3 mg Tablet is an anticoagulant or blood thinner which is used in the treatment and prevention of abnormal blood clots. This medicine does not dissolve the blood clot that has already formed but may prevent it from becoming larger and leading to more serious problems. Close monitoring of INR and prothrombin time is necessary during treatment with this medicine.

What is it prescribed for?
Prevention and treatment of thromboembolism
This medicine is used in the treatment and prevention of thromboembolism that may occur after an acute myocardial infarction, post cardiac stent implant and cardiac valve replacement. It can also be used as a prophylaxis for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), in preventing thromboembolism during a prolonged hospitalization after a critical illness and in non-valvular atrial fibrillation.
When not to use?
Allergy
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to acenocoumarol or any other components present along with it.

Pregnancy
This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women due to the increased risk of serious fetal harm.
Breast-feeding
This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. If the medicine is used, close monitoring of the infant for any undesired side effects is necessary. Discuss all the risks and benefits with your doctor before taking this medicine.
General warnings
Hepatic impairment
Caution is advised while using this medicine in patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Acitrom 3 mg Tablet is not recommended for use in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
Use in pediatrics
This medicine should be used with extreme caution in children and adolescents with close monitoring of PT/INR due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Appropriate dose adjustments should be done based on the clinical condition.
Geriatric use
Initiate Acitrom 3 mg Tablet therapy with lower doses in patients above 65 years of age due to the increased risk of adverse effects.
Surgery
Close monitoring of coagulation status is warranted while a patient receiving this medicine undergoes surgical procedures or tooth extraction due to the increased risk of excessive bleeding. Appropriate corrective measures and dose adjustments may be required based on the clinical condition.
Intramuscular injections
Intramuscular injections may cause hematomas in patients receiving this medicine and hence they are not recommended for use during treatment with Acitrom 3 mg Tablet.
Renal Impairment
Caution is advised while using this medicine in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Acitrom 3 mg Tablet is not recommended for use in patients with severe renal impairment.
Dosage
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose. In emergency situations of severe hemorrhage, clotting factors can be returned to normal by administering fresh whole blood or fresh frozen plasma, complex concentrate or recombinant factor VIIa supplemented with vitamin K1.
