INTRODUCTION
ACITROM contains Nicoumalone (Acenocoumarol) which belongs to a group of medicines called anticoagulants (blood thinning medicines). Blood clots are clumps that occur when blood hardens from a liquid to a solid. A blood clot that forms inside one of your veins or arteries is called a thrombus. It acts as anticoagulant by reducing the effects of vitamin k (a vitamin your body uses to make blood-clotting factors) and reducing the blood concentration of prothrombin. It works by preventing the formation of blood clots. This medicine is used to treat and prevent blood clots. It does not dissolve the existing blood clots, but it inhibits them from growing larger and causing serious problems.
Take this medicine according to the dose and frequency as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you are suffering from kidney or liver disease and about all the other medications that you are taking regularly, pregnant or breastfeeding. Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with ACITROM. The common side effects of this medicine are bleeding, dizziness or weakness.
