INTRODUCTION
OLIMELT 7.5MG contain Olanzapine which belongs to a group of medicine called antipsychotics. It is used to treat schizophrenia and mania and prevent recurrence of these symptoms in patients with bipolar disorder. Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally resulting in some combination of hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behavior that impairs daily functioning and can be disabling. Extremely elevated and excitable mood usually associated with bipolar disorder is called mania.
OLIMELT 7.5MG works by affecting the levels of chemical messengers (dopamine and serotonin) to improve mood, thoughts and behavior. The most common side effects are weight gain, sleepiness, increases in levels of prolactin in the blood, dizziness, restlessness, tremor, constipation, dry mouth. This medicine is strictly not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always take OLIMELT 7.5MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with or without food. Try to take this medicine at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

SIDE EFFECTS OF OLIMELT 7.5MG
SERIOUS
Unusual movement (face and tongue)
Blood clots in the veins especially in the legs (symptoms include swelling, pain, and redness in the leg), which may travel through blood vessels to the lungs causing chest pain and difficulty in breathing
Combination of faster breathing, sweating, muscle stiffness and drowsiness
COMMON
Weight gain, sleepiness, dizziness
Increases in levels of prolactin in the blood
Changes in the levels of some blood cells, circulating fats and early in treatment, temporary increases in liver enzymes
Increases in the level of sugars in the blood and urine
Increases in levels of uric acid and creatine phosphokinase in the blood
Feeling more hungry, restlessness
Tremor
Unusual movements
Constipation
Dry mouth
Rash
Extreme tiredness
Water retention leading to swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet
Fever
Joint pain and sexual dysfunctions such as decreased libido in males and females or erectile dysfunction in males
RARE
Lowering of normal body temperature
Abnormal rhythms of the heart
Sudden unexplained death
Inflammation of the pancreas causing severe stomach pain, fever, and sickness
Liver disease (yellowing of the skin and white parts of the eyes)
Muscle disease presenting as unexplained aches and pains
Prolonged or painful erection
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dizziness:
Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.
Constipation:
Take fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.
Dry mouth:
Chew sugar-free gum. Control caffeine intake. Do not use mouthwashes. Sip water regularly.
Fever:
Drink plenty of fluids and water. Avoid taking cold bath or showers.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
OLIMELT 7.5MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
BREASTFEEDING
OLIMELT 7.5MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine since it may cause drowsiness.
ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with OLIMELT 7.5MG.
KIDNEY
OLIMELT 7.5MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
OLIMELT 7.5MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Do not take OLIMELT 7.5MG if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Olanzapine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
OLIMELT 7.5MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
OTHERS
Tell your doctor if you have or had a condition such as,
Previously diagnosed with eye problems such as certain kinds of glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
Suffer from dementia
Unusual movements mainly of the face or tongue
Combination of fever, faster breathing, sweating, muscle stiffness and drowsiness or sleepiness
Weight gain
High blood sugar and high levels of fat (triglycerides and cholesterol)
Family history of blood clots
Suffer from diabetes, parkinson’s disease, seizures, prostate problems, blocked intestine (Paralytic ileus), blood disorders, stroke, or “mini” stroke (temporary symptoms of stroke)
Salt depletion (prolonged severe diarrhoea and vomiting)
Are over 65 years
INTERACTIONS
Talk to your doctor if you are taking,

Carbamazepine (used for anti-epileptic and mood stabiliser)
Fuvoxamine (used for antidepressant)
Antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin (used to treat infection)
