PHENSEDYL T SYRUP is a medicine that consists of codeine and triprolidine. It is used to treat dry cough. It is also used to treat allergic symptoms like runny nose, congestion, cold, throat irritation, watery eyes, and redness of the nose. PHENSEDYL T SYRUP works by reducing the activity of the cough centre in the brain and by stopping the effects of histamine that causes allergic symptoms.
PHENSEDYL T SYRUP has some common side effects such as drowsiness, constipation, sweating, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist or bother you. Do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery after taking this medicine as it can cause drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid using this syrup if you are previously allergic to it.
PHENSEDYL T SYRUP can be taken with or without food. Use this medicine in the dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop using it without consulting your doctor as abrupt discontinuation of this medicine may cause your symptoms to recur. If you still feel unwell after completing the treatment course, consult your doctor.
PHENSEDYL T SYRUP is not recommended to use if you have ulcers, liver or kidney diseases as it can worsen your condition. It is recommended to consult your doctor before using PHENSEDYL T SYRUP if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is not recommended to use this medicine in children under 18 years of age.
PHENSEDYL T SYRUP can affect your ability to think and may worsen drowsiness and dizziness if taken with alcohol so it is recommended to avoid consuming alcohol while using this medicine. Take it only as prescribed by your doctor because it can cause addiction or dependence with unregulated use.

What is it prescribed for?
A dry or non-productive cough is a cough without any mucous (phlegm/sputum). This is generally caused by cold, throat irritants or allergies. PHENSEDYL T SYRUP is used to provide relief from dry cough and associated allergic symptoms. It acts by reducing the activity of the cough centre in your brain and reducing the action of the natural chemicals in the body which cause an allergic reaction.
When not to use?
Avoid using PHENSEDYL T SYRUP if you are previously allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulties, etc.
Acute or severe bronchial asthma
Asthma is a condition where there is difficulty in breathing due to the narrowing of the airway passage of your lungs. PHENSEDYL T SYRUP is not recommended for use if you have asthma as it may worsen your condition.
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI)
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) are used in the treatment of depression. Use of PHENSEDYL T SYRUP is not recommended to use within 14 days after taking MAO inhibitors like selegiline or rasagiline. Using these medicines simultaneously may increase the risk of undesirable effects like drowsiness and blurred vision.
Respiratory depression is the reduction of lung function and its oxygen exchange capacity. PHENSEDYL T SYRUP is not recommended for use if you have respiratory disorders due to the risk of worsening your condition.
PHENSEDYL T SYRUP is not recommended to use if you have a gastrointestinal blockage, such as paralytic ileus. Paralytic ileus is the obstruction in your intestine due to paralysis of the intestinal muscles. In such cases, the medication may stay in the stomach for a long time (delayed absorption) which can lead to serious side effects.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia
It is not recommended for use in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) since it may cause difficulty in passing urine.
Warnings for special population
PHENSEDYL T SYRUP is not recommended for use in pregnancy due to the risk of harmful effects on your foetus. Consult your doctor to discuss potential risks and benefits.

Driving or operating heavy machinery
PHENSEDYL SYRUP can cause sleepiness, blurred vision or dizziness. Hence, do not drive vehicles and operate heavy machinery after taking this medicine.
Infectious diarrhoea is a condition due to abnormal intestinal secretion caused by bacteria or viruses. Use PHENSEDYL T SYRUP with caution in such condition as it may worsen diarrhoea. Consult your doctor for dose modification or any alternative.
Acute alcohol intoxication
PHENSEDYL T SYRUP is not recommended for use in patients with acute alcohol intoxication (drinking too much alcohol in a short amount of time) exhibiting depressed vital signs due to the increased risk of severe respiratory depression and death.
PHENSEDYL T SYRUP has the potential to lead to drug addiction and misuse. This risk is increased if the medication is used for a prolonged period of time. Consult your doctor if you experience any changes in mood or behaviour while taking this medication. Abrupt discontinuation is not advised because it may result in withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal of treatment should be done gradually with close monitoring.
PHENSEDYL T SYRUP is not recommended to be used if have a head injury or intracranial lesions as it can increase the intracranial pressure (pressure inside the skull and on the brain) and worsen your condition.
When a gallstone (stone in the gall bladder) passes and blocks a bile duct (the tube through which bile passes from the liver to the intestine), there is a pain that usually comes and goes in a regular pattern. This condition is called a biliary spasm. PHENSEDYL T SYRUP should be used with caution if you have any biliary or gallbladder diseases due to the increased risk of biliary spasm. This medicine may lead to an increase in biliary pressure which can further worsen your condition. Inform your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
Take the missed dose of PHENSEDYL T SYRUP as soon as you remember. If your next dosage is near, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to compensate for a missed one.
Never take more than the prescribed dose. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of PHENSEDYL T SYRUP.
